We fight energy poverty and climate change with projects and technology that benefit those most vulnerable to climate risks.

UpEnergy builds high-quality decarbonization projects that improve lives.

We do this with support from partners who believe in a just energy transition in which low-income people are prioritized by climate finance.

Our approach centers on applying our expertise across climate finance, monitoring and evaluation, engineering, behavioral science, and local operational insights. This ensures we deliver projects with high integrity, measurable impact, and significant social benefit.

Fighting Energy Poverty and Enhancing
Climate Resilience

  • Life-Improving Technology

UpEnergy fights energy poverty by delivering clean, life-improving technologies such as electric cooking, safe water systems, and emission-reducing charcoal stoves in local communities across Africa and beyond.

  • Carbon Removal

UpEnergy projects also support those most vulnerable within agricultural supply chains through targeted carbon removal projects, such as Biochar and Agroforestry, designed not only to mitigate climate change but also deliver value back to communities at risk.

Decarbonization Projects that

Fight Energy Poverty

Electric Cooking

  • Locations: Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia

  • Projects Underway: GS11578,  GS10963

UpEnergy issued the world’s first ever carbon credits linked to electric cooking in 2023. E-cooking now paves the way for a healthier, zero-emission cooking future, freeing communities from the dangers of indoor air pollution created by traditional biomass dependent stoves.

Community

Cooking

  • Locations: In Development

  • Projects Underway: In Development

Our community initiatives equip schools with bespoke cookstoves, engineered for greater thermal efficiency. These stoves decrease the amount of wood fuel required to serve hundreds of students on a daily basis, easing pressure on local forests and generating considerable savings that schools can reinvest back in education.

Fuel-Efficient Household Cooking

  • Locations: Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Nigeria, Zambia, Ghana, Mozambique, DRC

  • Projects Underway:  GS10898, GS11191, GS1044, GS10963, VCS2789, VCS2676, VCS2673

Billions of people rely on charcoal to cook every single meal on a daily basis with no feasible alternative. That's why we deliver projects that have distributed millions of fuel-efficient stoves, reducing charcoal needs by up to 56.57%.

Safe Water
Provision

  • Locations: Uganda, Malawi, Zambia

  • Projects Underway: GS10963

For households and schools, we supply water treatment systems that remove 99.99% of bacteria from dirty water sources, eliminating widespread water borne diseases such as cholera, dysentery and diarrhea. This makes clean, safe drinking water continually available without the need to harvest local forests to boil water.

Carbon Removal

  • Locations: Mozambique, Tanzania

  • Projects Underway: Coming Soon

We develop technology and projects that achieve our goal of global decarbonisation whilst supporting those most vulnerable to climate risks. That is why we have launched Biochar and Agroforestry projects in Africa to deliver additional value to those at climate risk.
